For me, the whole idea of the Quarterly reads was to broaden my reading material .. the four books of 2017 are ones that I would NEVER have picked up, let alone spent time reading .. but that doesn't mean it was time wasted, au contraire !!
The fact that everyone has had different opinions on each one is the best part .. exploring why others have reactions to books that I don't is why I want to take part in a Book Club .. seeing something through another's eyes can give a greater understanding ..
Everyone has a choice to join in or not, to read the book to the last word or discard it after 50 pages ..
You've done a great job this year elliej84 and I will be joining in for 2018 ..
(no apologies necessary .. )

So I just managed to finish this one before the end of the quarter It was an odd read for Christmas Day! but an easy one to slip in my bag for odd moments when I really didn't want to watch the Harry Potter film others were watching ... But I could have done with concentrating on it a bit better, because I lost the sense of who was who from time to time.
Like many of you I enjoyed the writing style with the different points of view, even if I did sometimes find it hard to follow. I was a bit disappointed with the ending. If I hadn't been, I think I might have read it through again, and probably got a lot more out of it.
I didn't get into the minor plot with the abduction at all - to the extent that I'd actually forgotten it until I came on here and read all your reviews, even though I only finished it a few hours ago! What stuck with me much more was the story of the boy who had drowned years ago and the impact that had on his family.

Which is ironic as this thread dates from 2017
