Yes...... is it me? Go to Goodreads and read a few pages of this new sponsored book which apparently starts a series. Red in Wonderland Red McKenna hires a mysterious biker to help track down her father's killer. Read the first chapter for FREE! A whole series! Just tell me I am a snob if you think this is a good start....... I have read some bad writing in my time

OK, so you intrigued me and I had a look .. I presume you you did notice the cover before you had a read, Mrs M ?? The naked girl on a motorbike kinda gave the 'plot' away before reading one word .. and after that pathetic opening word, that is where I should have stopped .. 12 minutes of my life I'll never get back again ..

Oh yes! I saw the cover....... and I only read page one because that was enough. so only a few seconds of my life, plus a couple more telling you about it!!

It's pretty grim I stopped at 'she liked guys. She really liked guys!' or similar lol then skimmed the end.

A series! Good grief! Is there actually a market for this kind of thing? And who is sponsoring it? I haven't bothered to take a look, but it would appear to contravene the definition of a 'good read.'

They'll be thinking they're onto a winner now !! 3 reads in one day .. Whooooo! probably the only three in the country..... and in reply to anzee - yes, of course there's a market ..... but it's probably not anyone on RISI!! and who is the sponsor? My guess it's the company who actually prepared this drivel for e-publication (for I can't really see anyone wasting tree books on this!) Obviously we have all read a very sheltered life.......

I wondered how many people who'd read the free chapter would really be willing to pay for more of the same and if that sum would be sufficient to make it worth the sponsor's while. With any luck, they'll come a cropper. Can't help feeling sorry for the poor soul landed with the task of editing this literary gem.

What's one man's meat is another's poison, imho, hoping the author or sponsor "will come a cropper" is a little unfair. Everyone's entitled to have a go at publishing their own writing, be it rubbish or not. No?

Well... maybe so, but I'm sure there are many talented and more deserving would-be writers out there who are never given the opportunity of having their work promoted on Goodreads.

I know someone who paid to have their own book published as she had no success when sending it 'out there' to publishers. I have read this book, and to be fair, I was most impressed .. Today, anyone can publish anything they want online and, I suppose, you could argue that Amazon are sponsoring the Freebie downloads they offer .. in my experience Corporate Sponsorship of any kind = Tax Break !!

In this digital day and age though, anything's possible. People will never like the same things, so even a talented deserving would-be writer will have their critics if they were to be published. There is some dross out there, but nothing to stop it getting in print. There's always a market for every taste, (and that book isn't to mine!)

I think "sponsored" just means the author or publisher is paying to advertise it. So anyone has that opportunity if they want to spend the money.

If vanity publishing no longer happens, that can only be a good thing, as it was all about exploiting vulnerable people desperate to see their work in print, even though the books received no subsequent promotion. Has your friend tried online publishing?

Has your friend tried online publishing? But Anzee - self publishing e-books is the same as vanity publishing was (except that of course the book only exists on line) ...in fact, I feel a book coming on!
