Hi
I just wanted to say thank you for providing this fantastic service which I've enjoyed for several years. I am so sad to hear it will be closing in October. I've swapped 212 books in this time and it has led me to books I would never have found otherwise.
I am looking into finding another swaps site - so far BookMooch seems the only one comparable, so may be other RISI peeps will follow on there too.
Anyway, thank you to the people who have run this site and given up their time. I've loved having books dropping through my letterbox!
All the best Sophie aka superophski

Oh my - it is certainly an end to an era. I often wonder what my life would be now if I hadn't joined RISI in March 2006. I certainly would not have met so many people, and made such a lot of friends. Thank you Neil and Andrew for making this possible.
How did I find RISI. I was registered with Freecycle and looking for a book - "Tiger Tiger" by Frank Ryan. The freecycler suggested I join RISI to see if members had this book and wanted to swap. Well I never did find it. I did swap about 43 books, but what I liked the most was the forum.
The forums - well they were a hoot back then. One could never imagine you could "have a party" online and feel you are part of the crowd, just by sitting in front of your computer or laptop. Those were the days. Then there was the meets - it took me a while to actually say "I am going". Warnings from colleagues saying "you can't just go and meet strangers off the internet - you never know what might happen". I rebelled as I do, and went along to the first meet - and I can't remember where that was - but I do remember it was great, and the people you meet are just ordinary people with the same interest as you - books. Yes it has been an eventful 11.5 years, and sad to hear that the original RISI will close at the end of October, but thankfully our friendships are strong enough to continue through the new style forum and hopefully the name RISI will never die.
Thanks to the moderators too for keeping us in check.

I tend to have phases of reading. I'm currently in a big wave of reading so I was having trouble signing in to my account and not remembering my password I was wondering what was happening. I'm gutted to read that this website is closing as I have now saved up some books to swap. Could anyone tell me of any other book swapping websites out their but for the UK only? Much appreciated and very best wishes to Neil and Andrew.

Could anyone tell me of any other book swapping websites out their but for the UK only? ] I'm not aware of any that are still going. However, you don't have to send or receive internationally on bookmooch even though it's an international site. You can set your account to "I will only send books to my country". You can also filter searches to your country only. On the recent books page you can put united kingdominto the search recent books box and it will come up with recent books from the UK only. There are quite a lot of books being added by UK members at the moment .

Excellent, thank you. I have hesitated to join to see opinions on it. Are you on it?

Excellent, thank you. I have hesitated to join to see opinions on it. Are you on it? I am on it. I haven't added any books to it for 3 years because I've been using points and it has been a bit slow. However, I prefer to add a lot of books in one go in order to increase the likelihood of someone mooching more than one book at a time because that's usually cheaper and I only have a few points left now. Look at this thread as well readitswapit.freeforums.net/thread/1365/query-bookmooch-com-site

Oh yes... explain the points system to me. I prefer swap to swap not for points or certificates.

The advantage to the points system is that you don't have to find someone who both has a book you want and wants one of your books, you only have to find people who want one or the other. This can be particularly useful if you want books that are a different genre to the books you put up for mooching. Are you concerned about building up a lot of points and then not finding anything to spend them on? If that's the case you could have a look to see if there are any books you want first before adding your books, I only joined because there were books I wanted available.

Maybe I should join and then have a look around?

That's an option, you can still look at books without joining but you don't lose anything by joining either. Have a look at the recent books page if you haven't already bookmooch.co.uk/recent?search=united+kingdomthat's searching for recent UK books.
