Wow! Even with only 10 waiting my DH comments that I have waaay too many but with 200+ I wonder what he would say. What do your partners say to your collection? Nothing! Why should he? He builds me bookcases to house my TBR!! There are books everywhere in the house, despite the fact that as soon as one is read I swap it, list it, give it away or whatever.

I think Mr P was quite astonished for a while as to how many books I had, but he knows it's part of who I am and is fine with it. He has bets on how many I'll bring home! Like Mrs Mac, my books are read and then leave the house for charity, friends, meets, etc. I rarely keep books.
IMO I do find it quite sad/annoying that someone feels they have the right to criticise/make comments on that which obviously makes a person happy. My friend's husband is one such man. He sulks too!

Cannot abear a sulker! I think that quite often a person criticises another about the number of books around because they are not a reader themselves, and therefore doesn't see the sense it it. Not forgiveable though, is it?

Not forgiveable though, is it? My husband never criticises how many books I have (and it's *a lot*!), but whenever he has a browse along the shelves he always, without fail, says "You read some funny books. I've never heard of any of them." Which is an odd thing to say, as how does he know they're "funny" (in the sense of peculiar!) if he's not read or even heard of them. But he has some very odd book habits himself, imho... he'll buy a copy of anything by Graham Greene, even though he knows we already have at least one copy (and sometimes several) of absolutely everything GG ever wrote. Last time he was home he even bought a copy of one GG novel IN FRENCH, despite the fact he can't read anything more than the most basic French! And he bought a pile of audiobooks from the library in an obsolete format (it was a sort of mini cassette that I've never seen anywhere else) - and they were all chick lit!

My hubby can't build anything so we are currently in the process of getting a bookcase built for me. It will have space for 1000 books, which should just be enough as long as I stay strong on the next few meets!! pennyt your hubster sounds funny with his GG addiction, did he buy the French version for you? And why wouldn't you want random chicklit audiobooks?? ha jubee4, just tell your hubs that there are far worse people you know, that's what I do

I happened to find it on the shelf after his visit home at Christmas. He must have snuck it into the house! And yeah, why wouldn't I want some random chicklit audiobooks - he knows me sooooo well, obviously!! But actually, the really funny thing is he didn't buy them for me, but for himself! Again, he didn't announce he'd bought them - I just found them on a chair in the bedroom.
