Same questions as last year Got a Big book? Got a Fat book? Got a Giant book? A hardback you want to read but haven't got round to? A paperback so big to read in bed it may knock you out? List here any BFGs you want to read this year, and over the course of the next 12 months you can tell us how you are going.

My first Reading Group Book of the year is Dominion by CJ Sansom which is huge (fortunately I already have a copy on my kindle from when it was in a deal) Read Jan 2018
I'd also like to tackle A Game of Thrones and Pillars of the Earth this year

This year I really want to read The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell and Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges - both over 500 pages (which is possibly the reason why I keep putting it off!).
Also would like to read Scale: The Universal Laws of Life and Death by Geoffrey West, 400+ pages but I've got it as a hardback that's quite bulky and difficult to carry around, will probably save it for reading at home.

I saw off a lot of my BFGs last year and haven't added too many new ones. I think this is all I have that's over 500 pages:
Freedom by Jonathan Franzen Finished 3/11/18, 4 stars
Missing Joseph by Elizabeth George Finished 28/6/18, 3 stars
A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon Finished 26/2/18, 4 stars
The Dark-eyed Girls by Judith Lennox Gave away without reading Julie or the New Heloise by Jean-Jacques Rousseau (also in my Mrs Mac challenge) Contact by Carl Sagan
City Sister Silver by Jachym Topol Finished 26/1/18, 2 stars

Well my other David Mitchell is too short but I've found 3 that fit the bill, 2 of which have been on the TBR for ages so it's definitely time I got round to them. They are:
A Place of Greater Safety - Hilary Mantel (872 pages!!!) The Little Shadows - Marina Endicott (527 pages) Legacy - Susan Kay (647 pages)

Will have a look and do a BFG list myself I'm planning to get cracking on this as soon as I'm done with the two I'm currently reading. I've also heard good things about David Mitchell's other book The Cloud Atlas (another 500+), which I'll consider buying and including on my 2019 BFG list if I enjoy this one.

The Richard Burton diaries for me. Get rid of that one and they'll be room for at least 3 new ones in its place.

I have got Stalingrad by Antony Beevor as my challenge. It is 492 pages long (432 if you don't count the appendices and index) I have also included it in the 40 book challenge as a book that I've had for over two years but haven't read yet. It is the final book in a list of '101 books to read before you die' which I found on the internet over 10 years ago. I'm sure it wil be a thrilling read... There is a bookmark at the start of chapter 1 which suggests I have already read the preface but I can't remember it.
Edit: Yay - I finished reading it earlier this year. Not quite as tough going as I was expecting.
