Hey guys, I'm currently reading (and loving, of course!) Career of evil by robert galbraith, and this was a poor decision as I've devoured all three in quite fast succession without bearing in mind that number 4 hasn't been released yet!! So, looking for recommendations of something similar to dip into to keep me going while I wait for book 4! I will add, about 50% of why I love these books so much is that I'm 100% in love with Cormoran, so that needs bearing in mind lol! 😀 Thanks muchly! Nat

So natsplatt, have I understood you correctly ?? .. Although you are totally in love with Cormoran, you cannot hold him faithfully in your heart until book 4 is released, which could be another six months away. You cannot wait, so you'd like us to help you find another to 'cheat' with until his return ?? (Total sarcasm ) .. Assuming that Strike is a bit of rough, do you want a completely different man, say Tommy & Tuppence by Agatha Christie .. or a maverick like Jack Reacher by Lee Child .. a toff in the shape of Inspector Linley by Susan George or the FBI journeyman of Alex Cross by James Patterson ?? Who are you looking for ??

I really don't know, I'm not naturally drawn to this genre, and given that it's such a huge and diverse genre, I could do with some guidance! (And yes, it's cos he's a bit of rough, and kinda damaged that I like him, that and underneath that gruff exterior he's a sweetheart!) Nat

Have you tried the Kate Atkinson books? These are more literary crime I would say and I think it starts with Case Histories (yes it does I just checked) it is the Jackson Brodie series.

I think I have that on my TBR already. Will go and look and bump it up then if I do, thanks! Nat ETA I do indeed have case histories!!

I'm desperately awaiting number 4 too being another Cormoran groupie - though I also love his relationship (or not) with Robin. I've read a lot of crime books and series over the years and while most have a main man + sidekick, I'm afraid I can't think of a single one where the main man is as charismatic as Cormoran or where the relationship with the sidekick provides the same amount of impetus to the story. Perhaps the closest is Rebus - also a bit of a damaged man with a very gruff exterior that hides a kinder heart, and he has a nice bantering relationship with his more junior officer, Siobhan, but I don't think anyone could fall for him the way you fall for Cormoran, sadly. Might be worth a try though? I have to say I found the first couple of books in the series hard to warm to, but felt it improved a lot after those. The good thing is, if you do take to Rebus there are (so far) 21 books to keep you busy!

If you are looking for a crime series at about the same level with a "leading man" then I think I'd suggest the Simon Serrailler series by Susan Hill or the Roy Grace series by Peter James. They are both coppers rather than private eyes. As Penny says, not sure they will bowl you over like Strike does however.
If you are looking for a new "hearthrob" then you'll have to leave the crime genre and go to the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon - you will certainly fall for Jamie.........

My thoughts exactly .. Holmes & Watson fit the bill, but I couldn't think of any with such a strong female support, like Robin is ..

I've been wracking (racking?) my brain trying to think of charismatic detectives/private eyes, and wondered if you'd read any of the Aurelio Zen series? I've not actually read any of the books despite having them all on my kindle, but a few of them were adapted for the BBC a while ago, with Rufus Sewell playing Zen; they were so good, I wish they'd made more!

Not a leading man, but a very 'normal' woman (worries about her weight, men, work colleagues, confidence, etc, best friend is a druid, as you do), have you tried The Ruth Galloway Mysteries by Elly Griffiths, natsplatt ? They're not too heavy if you're looking for more in the crime drama. Ruth irritated me at first, but I've grown to like her. EG also writes the Stephens & Mephisto mysteries (which I love), Stephens (policeman) needs a good shake sometimes, but Mephisto (magician) comes across as a bit of a dish! windysisters likes them too.
