Dr Frieda Klein Series by Nicci French
This has been a fantastically enjoyable series, following the reluctant Crime solving of psychotherapist, Dr Frieda Klein. I have just read all 6 Books back to back & would happily start Book 7 today ..
Blue Monday Tuesday's Gone Waiting For Wednesday Thursday's Child Friday On My Mind Saturday's Requiem Sunday Morning Coming Down Silent Sunday (due Feb 2018) Day of the Dead (due July 2018)
" Blue Monday: Five-year-old Matthew Faraday is abducted. His face is splashed across newspaper front pages. His parents and the police are desperate. Can anyone help find their little boy before it is too late?
Psychotherapist Frieda Klein just might know something.
One of her patients describes dreams of seizing a boy who is the spitting image of Matthew. Convinced at first the police will dismiss her fears out of hand, Frieda reluctantly finds herself drawn into the heart of the case. A previous abduction, from twenty years ago, suggests a new lead - one that only Frieda, an expert on the minds of disturbed individuals, can uncover.
Struggling to make sense of this terrifying investigation, Frieda will face her darkest fears in the hunt for a clever and brutal killer . . . "
When you first meet Frieda, she is a rigid person, with set routines and boundaries. Rather aloof with everyone, even her friends, and a moral code that keeps her clients at arms length.
Through one of these clients, she links his story to the abduction of a small boy, and this is how she get involved in a police investigation .. Her straight-forward manner endears her to the DCI, but his team, the Chief Constable & the other ‘famous’ police psychiatrist just see her as trouble & someone to be ignored.
The Series shows you how Frieda grows into having to acknowledge that she cannot be there for everyone & cannot do everything on her own … that she is a woman who stands by her convictions, however many are against her, and is prepared to, unwittingly, put her life on the line for the truth.
The perpetrator in Book 1 now becomes a shadow for Frieda, killing those that threaten her, but being destructive to her life also, playing with her like a puppet on a string .. but she is alone in her fears, as authorities do not believe her - He is dead !
Each book is an individual & separate case, but I would recommend reading from Monday, as this sets the scene for all the characters.
Initially Frieda is invited by the police to get involved and help them, then in her back-story she becomes the victim, before fighting for her life as the accused. All have great twists and turns as she questions suspects, trying to unravel the truth. The brilliant endings keep you in suspense & reaching for the next book ..
To add to the excitement is the continuing undercurrent of the story from Book 1 which bubbles along, like the hidden Rivers of London that all the books are very cleverly based around .. taking you along the ancient and long forgotten tow paths to the Thames to find the answers ..
With Book 7 due out in April, I am hoping this is yet another twisting tale and we finally have the answers to the questions raised in Book 1. Well, we as readers, are led to believe Frieda‘s fears, but can she prove it to the police before she is included in the body count ??
I cannot wait ..
Series : 10/10

" Sunday Morning Coming Down "
Wow !! Wow !! Wow !!
I picked this up from the Library on the Saturday morning, and it followed me everywhere (well, almost) all weekend .. and I stormed to the finish on Sunday evening ..
It was brilliant .. another great twist for the Series .. perhaps like me, the Authors want to tell us the ending, but also do not want to let Frieda go !!
My disappointment of not obtaining this conclusion in Book 7 was smashed onto the floor like a crystal glass after just the first page .. we were off, full speed ahead, as though we'd never been apart ..
Do you get the impression that "I LOVE THIS SERIES", yet ??
So now I must wait, again, for the final Chapter .. early next year is 6 months !! I may even have to read this one again in the New Year.
Series is still (10/10)

I'm waiting till they complete the series before carrying on, is it bad that I can't remember what happens in book one will it spoil it I would suggest you read Blue Monday first .. you need to know how everything starts off to understand what follows .. Book 1 (Monday) is like the seed, and you need that in your head so that all the other Books can grow and come alive. You meet the 'baddy' in Blue Monday and the rest of the series is about the psychological warfare between said 'baddy' and Frieda.
I first read Book 2 (Tuesday's Gone), thinking it was a stand-alone book, and as much as I liked it, I knew that I was only getting half of the story as I didn't know the history of the characters .. so I read Blue Monday and then re-read Tuesday et voila, I was hooked !!
It will be worth it to read it again ..

I think what Suzanne is suggesting is that you start at the beginning again if you cannot remember what happens!

I think what Suzanne is suggesting is that you start at the beginning again if you cannot remember what happens! Yes, thank you Mrs M, that is exactly what I am saying ..
It is entirely up to you Kat2011 .. but to get the most out of the Series, you need to re-read 1&2 .. (IMO)

I was No 30 a couple of days ago, now I'm down to 18 17 already .. But that still means I may not get my hands on it until next year .. I want to know then ending, but I don't want to buy the last book of the Series brand new ... Nightmare !! Why do we do this to ourselves ?? Ha ha !!

July Update .. Day of The Dead : Freida Klein No 8 was finally released last week (in Hardback) " At long last, a final reckoning is coming for Frieda Klein ..
On a north London high street, a runaway vehicle crashes to a halt. The man in the driving seat was murdered a week earlier.
On Hampstead Heath, a bonfire blazes: in the flames lies the next victim.
As autumn leaves fall, a serial killer runs amok in the capital, playing games with the police. The death toll is rising fast, and the investigation is floundering.
But this is no ordinary killer, and every new victim is intended as a message to just one woman.
Because psychologist Frieda Klein is in hiding. And someone is coming to find her .. "
After seven stunning novels, Frieda Klein's duel with her dark nemesis finally comes to a climax - and only one can make it out alive. Aaaaarrgh !! Just checked the status at the Library, and it says 'On Order' from the publisher .. I hope they get at least 10 copies, so I will effectively be NEXT in the queue !!
