Hi all
As many people have noticed, the site hasn't been working for the past week or so. Apologies for not posting about this before, but I've been having a bit of a busy time recently.
The site being unavailable at this time is unintentional. As I mentioned before we weren't planning to shut anything down before the end of October, but it seems that our server has crashed and can't be accessed. I'll try and resurrect it, but I'm not overly optimistic as our hosting provider is refusing to support the server anymore.
Anyway, I'll post here one way or another.
Neil

Hi all It seems that our hosting provider decided to move our server to a new data centre on the 26th September and since then the server has been accessible. I can't seem to access the server even when in recovery mode, and our hosting provider is refusing to support the server since it is so old. This is just bad timing, and unrelated to our decision to close the site at the end of October. However, I'm afraid that we're left with no option but to declare the site closed forever now. Regarding your personal data (names, email addresses, postal addresses), this will now all be destroyed by our hosting provider. As mentioned, these forums will continue to stay alive indefinitely on the current URL: readitswapit.freeforums.net/Thanks for all the swapping over the years! Neil

Thanks for letting us know Neil, and for all your hard work over the years, it's been great.
And also thanks for creating the forums for us, many of us are very regular visitors and it means a lot.

Hi, Sorry to hear this site is now closed. I have been on it for many years and have had some great swaps. Have thought twice about swapping books recently because of postage costs rising. Thanks for all your hard work. Best wishes, Jill Haire

I am very disappointed to hear of this, I have swapped many books, this seemed to be the only site of its kind. Shame there was no warning about it closing. I had a wishlist of about 12 books on there, I have no idea what they are

I had a wishlist of about 12 books on there, I have no idea what they are This forum has been open since Feb/March, when the old forums on RISI failed completely. If you never used the old forums it's easy to see how you missed the gradual breakdown. However, on here, Neil did warn us that the server was very dodgy and he would have to close the site by end October. In the event, it had to be closed in September. I lost my wishlist of around 10 also! Even though I warned everyone here to print it off before the site closed, I forgot to do that....... duh! We do list free books here - postage only so have a look round the site. Also I add an asterisk to any book I would have swapped previously on my books read this month list. If you see something you like send the poster a list of your own books - maybe they will swap with you. Or just offer postage, and I am sure they will be happy to send.

So sorry to hear that Read It Swap It has closed! It has been such a fabulous site for many years. Thank you to Neil and everyone else who was organised in the running of the site. Does anyone know of any alternative swapping sites/exchanges? Thanks

Hi Neil
Thanks from me too for all your hard work over the years. It's a massive shame that RISI is going to be no more and I'm sure that there would be many members out there who would share my sense of loss.
Is there no way that it could be resurrected? Is it a matter of finance or need for new blood to help administer it?
In my experience it is by far and away the best format for book exchanges out there and we all owe Andrew and Neil a huge debt of gratitude for what they have done. I for one would be happy to assist in any way I can to keep it going, maybe as a subscription service?
Does anyone else feel the same way?

As I've said before on the forums, it's not just a question of money, but technical knowhow. Someone recently offered to use their expertise to either resurrect the site or start a new one. Well, the former is impossible, since the server is permanently down, and this person hasn't posted again, so no doubt was put off by all the difficulties involved in setting up a new site.

Only discovered the site had closed after trying to get on it last night to potentially swap a book.
Such a shame - even though I haven't used it that much, it was a great site, it will be missed!
