The main ReaditSwapit swapping site has now closed. Here are some frequently asked questions regarding the closure.
Please read these before posting any questions or queries.
Why has the site closed?
The owners of the site were unable to make enough profit to upgrade their server to support the website. They had planned to close at the end of October, giving members time to complete outstanding swaps. However, there has been a technical problem between the website server and the internet host. Due to the age of the server, neither the website owners or the host company are able to fix the problem so the site is now down permanently.
What about my personal information which was stored on RiSi?
The site owner has assured us that the web host company will destroy all data.
What about my outstanding swaps?
Unfortunately due to the abrupt nature of the web site disappearing, there will inevitably be outstanding swaps. Those where members have the emails with the other swapper’s address on should be able to send their books on and should also hopefully have the other swapper’s email address to make contact and ensure this happens. There may be a handful of swaps where the above is not possible – We’re sorry but we don’t have any advice in these circumstances so unless the other swapper has your details and contacts you, you might just have to forget about the swap at whatever stage it was at.
Is there another book swapping website anywhere?
There is an American based site called bookmooch.com who offer a service where you list your books and if someone requests one of them you post it off and then receive credit points to enable you to request books off other members. The site is international so you could be posting and receiving from other countries but can also sign up just for the UK. There's a whole thread about bookmooch here: Bookmooch
What about this forum – will it stay open?
Yes, we intend to keep the forum available for chatting about books (and other stuff) for as long as there is a group of people to chat with. So, if you have come here in search of answers about ReaditSwapit, why not hang around and chat about books with us?
