I'm a sucker for signing up to do anything that involves me buying things for people, so I've signed up to do a Camp NaNoWriMo care package. I know exactly what gifts to buy but I'm struggling on a book. The person likes these authors: WG Sebald, Margaret Weiss, Betty McDonald, Mervin Peake I've never heard of them! Can anyone sugesst books that this person may like? Before I give up it's not really a book swap but they mentioned books in their form so I thought I'd fine one small ish paperback that will fit in the box. You are all experts and I trust you're opinions. Thanks in advance.

Elmet by Fiona Mozley is new this year and is an odd but good read..... which is smallish. You might consider a quick whip around Waterstones because they usually have small books on their counter - and they also have lovely little badges for not much money which are very "booky". I have googled each of the authors - and I was right, bizarre..... one wrote childrens books, two wrote fantasy, and one was a well respected German author.

I can't get to Waterstones at the moment, I only have a WHSmiths and The Works near me. All I know about her is she's a journalist, I think she likes science. Thanks for your help I'll have a browse and a think.

Jen .. Look up the Authors on Fantastic Fiction .. At the bottom of the page it will give you names of similar writers, so you have a broader base to look for .. Good luck ..

Didn't Mervin Peake write the Gormenghast Trilogy? I've no idea what else he may have written, however, and I've certainly never heard of the other authors.

Hahaha brilliant Ellie!
Unfortunately I cannot give any recommendations either. Maybe The Hunger Games might appeal?

jen, Why don't you send something off your shelves, that you have read & enjoyed, but no longer want to keep ?? Think of it as showing them a little piece of you, rather than fulfilling their wants .. Just a thought ..

I ended up sending a copy of Thin Air by Michelle Paver which was a book circle read and I recieved it from my book fairy the last time! Since Inga (the person I was sending the package to) liked hiking etc I thought I'd try it and she's writing a ghost story. She loved it. She's already read a book by this author and also weirdly, the father of one of her characters (in the novel she's writing) died on Kanchenjunga glacier - it's an important piece of backstory for her novel!!!
WHAT AN ODD COINCIDENCE, IF MY BOOK FAIRY HADN'T SENT IT I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN ABOUT IT so thanks again:)
