I hope you can go, Nat. Or get it on DVD or something. I LOVED it! The story unfolds very differently from the book but it has the same feeling somehow. Lots of things are different but the impact is the same. And it's so funny! Simon is wonderful. The only thing I missed was that you don't see much of the emails so you don't really know how adorable Blue is. And the segregation issue isn't there at all. All of them live in the same area in these HUGE houses. It's a slightly unreal world. But it's a very very cute film

Well! Started this yesterday in th car, but only got to page 31. So up early to do some laundry, settled in and finished the reast in a oner. I think I might be the last to the party on this one, but in case I am not my comments are below:
A perfect understanding of teens and what they go through, friendshipwise, sexuality, first love at school (Malcolm McKay was mine - he never knew and I can still remember how I felt whenever I saw him ). I felt so much for Simon, who needed to out himself but didn't know how to pick the right time. I felt for Blue too, but even though I never guessed who he was until the reveal, I liked him a lot.
Friendships can be difficult, and this describes the way they can ebb and flow in your teen years. I perfectly understood Leah's anger about not being the first to be told about Simon's sexuality.
I am glad there was an allsorts of characters in the book. But I do hope that Atlanta is as broadminded as it seems from the book - certainly I think the world in general has moved away from thinking that mixing with other races is a bad thing, but sadly not everyone has the same view.
Thanks Ellie, I enjoyed it. I wouldn't have read it if you hadn't added it to the RISI book club.
