When I was a child I had a book that had been my dad's when he was a child, and which captivated me. It was The Twilight of Magic by Hugh Lofting, a book I remember wanting to inhabit literally as well as figuratively. That original copy got lost somewhere along the way but a few years ago I tracked down another and re-read it - sadly it didn't match up to my memories and I think I would definitely have moved out by now! Not sure where I'd have moved to though. I've been mulling over this question for the past few days and still haven't really come up with an answer.

When I was a child I was always fascinated by Matilda by Roald Dahl and wanted to live in Miss Honeys cottage as it sounded perfect. Now I'm not too sure I'll have to have a good think and post in here again

I would also have liked to have lived at 17 Cherry Tree Lane - with the Banks family. (Mary Poppins)

Having come up with nothing for days on this, two actually sprang to mind last night - in fact, two families I'd love to live with. 1) The Larkins from H E Bates Darling Buds of May books or 2) The Family from One End Street (Eve Garnett), another book I adored when I was young. (Details here for anyone too young to remember this book.)

Not read any of HE Bates, but going by the TV series, how lovely would that be! Always made me laugh when they shared a bath and scoffed a load of food in it.

I shall have to investigate.
ETA - just ordered the first two from the library, the Amazon chapter made me laugh - "Ma, in her salmon jumper, was almost two yards wide".
