Guys I am so sorry that I have not given more warning for this quarter read. I am finally able to sit down and have a proper catch up on the forum. I have decided that due to my tardiness and general lack of time that this will be my last book club for now. I may start up again in the future we shall see how I'm getting on after the end of the year Stay With Me - Ayobami AdebayoYejide and Akin have been married since they met and fell in love at university. Though many expected Akin to take several wives, he and Yejide have always agreed: polygamy is not for them. But four years into their marriage--after consulting fertility doctors and healers, trying strange teas and unlikely cures--Yejide is still not pregnant. She assumes she still has time--until her family arrives on her doorstep with a young woman they introduce as Akin's second wife. Furious, shocked, and livid with jealousy, Yejide knows the only way to save her marriage is to get pregnant, which, finally, she does, but at a cost far greater than she could have dared to imagine
The observant among you will have noticed that I have already read this one, I thought it would be another great book for some lively discussions so hopefully you will join in over the next few months.

Thank you Ellie .. you know that I'm in .. just put it on reserve from the Library .. I am sorry that you feel that now is the time to 'call time' on the Quarterly Book Club elliej84 , I for one have found the books you have chosen for us very interesting, most that I would never have chosen to read myself, so I thank you for introducing me to new Authors and some lively opinions .. I think we should not be talking of extinguishing the flame, but passing the baton .. I'm sure there are many here that would be willing to step up and recommend a title for Q1 2019 .. there is plenty of time to do so .. A lot of us have jumped onto the release of Lethal White, so perhaps one option would be to find another book that is to be released over the winter months that we can all try .. (Just to be clear, I am not throwing my hat into the ring, as I have my hands full with the Classics Read-a-long thread .. ) ETA : Like The Bridge of Clay, but being out in Oct, I guess many of you will want to read it before Jan ..

I'm up for that one! It's in our library but I have a few to read first so I might wait until next month. Sounds like a great read, though. I'm sorry you're giving up, Ellie, but kudos to you for doing a great job. You picked some unusual books that were in most of our libraries and perfect for discussion, which is ideal, really.

Thanks ladies, I've enjoyed doing it and I love the response from you all. I think I just struggled to find time to read the last one and I put myself under pressure making it not fun anymore.
Probably just being silly 😋 so I may well continue it in the new year

Ellie - don't put yourself under the hammer for anything..... you can revive it later, or in January 19. It is entirely up to you, and we shall not be cross if you can't. x

Thank you for all your effort in coordinating the book club, elliej84 - I too will join in this time around, have just ordered the book on Amazon. I've only participated in the last 2 editions, which were very different for me as the first (Simon) was one that was on my TBR anyway and I just needed a bit of a push to get reading, while the other (Asking For It) I don't think I would have ever chosen to read on my own. My liking of the books aside, I really enjoyed the discussion on here, and it is my first experience of any sort of book club since school.
Sorry to hear you've decided to put this on hold, but it's equally important that you enjoy coordinating as much as we enjoy taking part. Also, for what it's worth, I think most agree that the last book was a tough one, and I honestly don't think you should feel pressured to finish the books just because they were your book club picks!

I think I just struggled to find time to read the last one and I put myself under pressure making it not fun anymore. Just because you've researched a Book and suggested it as a Group Read, you are just as entitled to DNF it as any one of us .. that's the whole point, to appreciate our differing tastes as readers is almost as important as our diverse reviews A book may have a good write up on the back and brilliant reviews, but it will still not appeal to everyone .. you included Whatever you decide, you have my support ..

I've read this one in January this year, I gave it 4 stars out of 5 on goodreads, I thought it was very good and interesting in many ways, though I wouldn't read it again at the moment for various reasons, and mine was a library copy so can't pass it on.
It was good of you to organise this Ellie and I think lots of people have enjoyed taking part so thank you.

You've done a brilliant job organising this, Ellie - thank you! I haven't joined in with all of them, but will read Stay With Me since I now have a copy . As for the future of the group read, I think it would be a shame if it just died, but I know it's a lot of work to research and choose a book each time. I was wondering whether we could organise it like we do my real-life book group and four people volunteer to pick one book for the year ahead, one for each quarter? geminii sounds as if she might be up for it; I would definitely take on one quarter. Do we have two more volunteers??!! Then we could at least keep it going for another year, and with four people picking books we should get some nice variety without it being too much hard work for any one individual. ETA Just had a text from Janice who saw this post as she dashed out of work and she's volunteering to do a quarter. So that's three out of the next four sorted. Do we have a fourth volunteer?!

geminii sounds as if she might be up for it Being diplomatic, I did say at the top of the thread that I wasn't putting myself forward as I already chose the Classic read-a-long books each month, but equally I want to see this continue, so YES, you can count me in .. If you get more volunteers Penny, I will gladly step back ..
