From Amazon:
By day, Judith Rashleigh is a put-upon assistant at a London auction house.
By night she's a hostess in one of the capital's unsavoury bars.
Desperate to make something of herself, Judith knows she has to play the game. She's learned to dress, speak and act in the interests of men. She's learned to be a good girl. But after uncovering a dark secret at the heart of the art world, Judith is fired and her dreams of a better life are torn apart.
So she turns to a long-neglected friend. A friend that kept her chin up and back straight through every past slight.
A friend that a good girl like her shouldn't have: Rage.
The Talented Mr Ripley meets Gone Girl in this darkly decadent and compelling new thriller that asks: Where do you go when you've gone too far?
Review
Well what can I say, I think I am still processing this book. It was a quick read at just over 300 pages it took me just over a day to read, I whizzed through it - the gigantic font might have had something to do with it!
I found myself quite liking the main character even though as a reader I did not find much out about her back story. There are slight similarities between this and Gone Girl but only insofar as the lead character being female and being slightly off kilter.
There is a lot of very graphic sexual content in this book so if you do not like this then I would steer clear, it didn't bother me as such but I wasn't expecting it and it probably didn't really need to be there.
The author obviously knew her stuff with regards to the art world, she lets you in to the art houses and the deals and I ended up googling to find out more about the paintings that were in the book.
Overall I give this book 4/5 stars, its an enjoyable quick summer read dragging you into the lives of the wealthy art world, but it definitely won't be for everyone.
