I came across this article this morning about the most famous book in each American state and thought it would be a great idea for someone who's looking for another bookish challenge! I'd quite fancy doing it myself if I could find substitutes for books like The Shining and Walden which (for very different reasons!) I don't fancy at all.

I think former member sazzymch mentioned doing a similar challenge when I first announced my Around The World challenge.

An interesting list. I have read several of these, some I would reject out of hand as they are just not for me (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas e.g.), some I would look out for, and there are a couple of books set in the US that I would highly recommend but they are not on the list. So it's "one man's meat is another man's poison" again, isn't it?
I'll be fascinated to see who decides to take this on and what their comments are.

A bit of a mixed bunch for me too. I've read quite a few of them and have a few more on tbr, but there are a lot on the list that I don't think would appeal to me.
Penny - The Shining is great!

Some great titles there, including the Laura Ingalls and the Louise Erdrich. If I wasn't constrained by the ton of review books awaiting my attention....maybe one for my twilight years although I might find a substitute for the actual Twilight book!

I've seen a few people are doing this on goodreads and have pondered doing it myself as I have loads of American books on my TBR, I wouldn't bother sticking to a predefined list I'd just make it up as I went along.
Might be one I aim to do next year think I'm doing too much already this year!

I wonder if it counts if you've already read some of these books. I must have read at least 10 of them already.

I've seen this a few times on various websites but have never been brave enough - or indeed have the time to give a it a try - maybe one day !!

For some reason, last night I decided to have a look through some of the threads that started before I joined up .. Apologies if I am resurrecting some old topics, but they are new to me .. Instead of the States of the US, why not books set in our own lovely Counties ?? We have 39 to visit .. The Counties List :
Bedfordshire Berkshire Buckinghamshire
Cambridgeshire Cheshire City of London Cornwall County Durham Cumbria Derbyshire Devon Dorset Essex Gloucestershire Hampshire Herefordshire Hertfordshire Kent Lancashire Leicestershire Lincolnshire Middlesex Norfolk Northamptonshire Northumberland Nottinghamshire Oxfordshire Rutland Shropshire Somerset Staffordshire Suffolk Surrey Sussex Warwickshire West Midlands Wiltshire Worcestershire Yorkshire
I am not going to revisit this years' reads, as I think I spent all summer in Cornwall, but I may kick off my UK Tour next year and see where I visit, with the addition of Scotland, Wales and Ireland .. !!

Ooh, what a good idea. Not that I'm really up for another challenge but I could do a casual tick list and see how I go LOL!

I'm certainly not going to hunt out books, unless I only need a couple to finish, I just think it would be interesting to travel the country without leaving home .. I will start a thread at the end of the year ..

Where's West Midlands? About to be added .. The list I found was so out of date, I had to take out lots of historical ones, and hoped someone would shout if any were missing ..
