Nice site (IT wise). I've looked through but the one thing that is missing is condition of book. All those lovely covers but no way of knowing if that is the edition you will receive, and whether it will be in good order or fair, or bad. We'll keep an eye on it shall we?
If anyone has a go, please do report back!!
I joined yesterday and when you offer a book you mark it very, good, good or acceptable and there is a box where you can type any addittional comments on condition. OK, that'g good, thanks.

I’ve also joined - out of curiosity - but haven’t listed any books yet...I think I’ll wait until a have a few finished, before I do, hopefully that way I’ll have a few ‘orders’ that I can send off all at once as my nearest Hermes pick-up shop is a bit further out than my local P.O. Reading this thread has made me realise how much I miss the swapping part of Read it Swap it!

Looks good and there are good books on there, if it's a new one that is still expensive to buy it could work out well!

The problem I see is how is it going to start? Because nobody can get any points until someone has ordered their books, and if you order without points you have to pay a total of £6.62 (?) so it seems to me everyone will be sitting there waiting for someone else to order first... and nothing will ever happen. According to their stats there have been over 100 "swaps" so someone must have got the ball rolling. And I've just seen that evie1612 has been our pioneer and said new members are given a free point so maybe that's how it starts
Ah yes, that makes sense

Just joined listed three books and had one ordered instantly. Now all parcelled up ready to go tomorrow They have to go via a Hermes ParcelShop, right? I joined before checking where the closest one is to me, turns out it's quite out of the way - I thought there were more of these ParcelShop things around...
Quite like that this is UK only though, saves sifting through the international offers on Bookmooch. And as previously mentioned there seem to be some good books on there so I'm going to list some books to try regardless. Might just have to tell people who order my books that I can only go to the ParcelShop once a week, which is what I'm saying for Post Office these days anyway.

I think quite a few of the Hermes Parcel shops have closed recently. We used to have one in the dry cleaner's at Tesco, but they stopped doing it as they said they just weren't making any money on it.

But I do like the interface of this new book swap website so will give it a go anyway.

Just joined listed three books and had one ordered instantly. Now all parcelled up ready to go tomorrow I listed 2 books last night and had an order for one of them this morning. I’ve resisted putting any books on my wish list so far, as I’ve got loads here to be going on with, but it is quite tempting as there are some good books listed on the site. Do you know if there’s an ‘I’ve sent this book’ tab that we click on once we’ve posted the book? Or is it just a case of waiting for Hermes to collect it and scan it? As others have said, the interface is really appealing, but there are a few areas that could do with a bit more information...the ‘marked as sent’ issue that I mentioned, and also it would have been helpful if there was some timeframe in which we had to post the book out - on RiSi it used to be 2 days, I think....not major issues, but I like to have as much info as poss!

I ordered a book using the one point I got when I added my first books, and have just gotten an email from Hermes saying my parcel "will soon be despatched". I guess that's kind of equivalent to "marked as sent", although I agree more information would be nice - currently I have no idea what this corresponds to w.r.t. the status of my book: Has the sender just printed out the postage label, or actually taken it to the ParcelShop or...?
I'm not in any hurry to actually receive the book, just would be nice to know roughly when to expect the Hermes guy to come banging on the door!

Oh, and a tip for anyone adding books: It seems like many of the books in their database have their leading "The" dropped in the title, so might be worth searching for the title without the word "The" before manually entering it. Only realised this after manually entering a few of mine, which I don't really mind doing except that means no cover picture since I can't be bothered to find, download and upload one.

I hadn't realised you HAVE to use Hermes (which I can't get to) so, unfortunately I've closed my account.

I use Hermes lots when selling on eBay .. The recipient gets an email as soon as the postage label is generated .. Use the link on this email to track - as soon as the Parcel is collected / dropped off, it will be scanned, so then you'll know it's on it's way .. tracking is usually very good ..
Can you not add a book by typing in the ISBN rather than title etc ?? Should be quicker & find the correct cover ..
