On a walk yesterday I saw a blue plaque on a house called River View, which sadly is now surrounded by Oxford Brookes University and a banked-up reservoir, so you stand there thinking, "What river?" But anyway, the plaque said that a novelist called Rhoda Broughton lived there from 1910 to 1920.
So today I looked her up and found two free Kindle books that are out of copyright, called Nancy and Alas!. I fear the title Alas! does not bode well for a classy read, but I will give them a go at some point...

Nowt and gaps are appearing! I could do with a few of those, alas..... I signed up to a monthly book subscription service from The Book Matchmaker (I selected the ‘surprise’ genre option) and my first book arrived today: The Shelf by Helly Acton...looks a bit chick-lity which I don’t mind occasionally but wouldn’t be my first choice - however - I’ve just read the reviews and they’re almost universally glowing, so I’m quite looking forward to starting it soon, now.

Oh I really enjoyed this after seeing peppercricket had read and enjoyed it. It was different and stick with it, I wasn't sure at first but ended up loving it.
