The Essex Serpent by Sarah PerrySarah Perry's award-winning novel, set at the end of the nineteenth century and inspired by true events. " Moving between Essex and London, myth and modernity, Cora Seaborne's spirited search for the Essex Serpent encourages all around her to test their allegiance to faith or reason in an age of rapid scientific advancement. At the same time, the novel explores the boundaries of love and friendship and the allegiances that we have to one another. The depth of feeling that the inhabitants of Aldwinter share are matched by their city counterparts as they strive to find the courage to express and understand their deepest desires, and strongest fears .. "Genres : Historical Fiction, Fiction, Historical, Literary Fiction, Romance, Gothic, Mystery ...more Literary awards : British Book Award for Book of the Year (2017) There has been a book on my shelf for the last few years that I've been yearning to read, but which has always seemed to be put on the 'back-burner' for others to go before .. so I've finally taken the decision to read it ..
Although set 'in my own back yard' of the Essex countryside, I know nothing of any historical Serpent prowling our marshlands, but I'm very interested in the research the Author has undertaken and what she has unearthed ..
Hope you will join in at some point .. if you've already read this, then please do add your voice to the discussion thread ..
P.S >> My cover has Flowers on x

I think we have a copy of this in the shop at the mo, although it might be gone by the next time I go in, that is often the way...
I've heard mixed things about it, but being an Essex girl by birth, I keep being attracted to the title.
