A Yound Adult read, from the author of My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece and Ketchup Clouds
Tess is 15, she's a bit overwieght, she wears odd socks, dyes her hair and is mute. She wasn't born mute - she just stopped talking the day she found a blog entry about herself on Dad's PC, about how he didn't love her when she was born. And so we live with Tess's silence, and we find out all sorts of things about her and her search for her real father, as it couldn't possibly be Jack, not after what she read, could it? Annabel Pitcher is a woman who knows how children feel. She obviously remembers school, the bullies, the real friends, the teachers you can trust, the ones you can't, and she remembers how cruel adolescence can be too. As an adult I read this and kept thinking that any adult with a child who is currently going through a "difficult" stage should read this - but also thinking what a brilliant read for an adolescent this is, Tess is the hero that can be identified with, her silence her armour, and the something that makes others revise how they feel about her, and about life. And the goldfish? a temporary companion in her world of silence who acts as her conscience.

Sounds intruiging, and lots of people have recommended her others to me.
