Happy New Year Everyone, whoop the discussion thread is now open... Just to reiterate the guidelines, once you have read the book, pop your thoughts in here so we can all see. Please, please mark any spoilers as such and use the white colour font to hide them. I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on the full experience of each book because someone had inadvertently given the game away . To mark as spoiler, write as normal but place apostrophes around the spoiler section. Then highlight the text and click on the colour wheel and select white. The font will still be shown whilst you are highlighted on it, but should vanish when you click away. Lets see what everyone thinks of it, go, go, go! Thank you again for taking part.

I'm looking forward to reading this, but I'm still no 6 on the reservations list at the library!! Good job we have 3 months to do so, lol!

They did something to our library's website and it doesn't even tell us our position in the queue any more All I can see is that there are 11 reservations ... I don't know if I'm number 2 or number 10. Maybe I will ask next time I go in. The staff might be able to see. Otherwise it will just be a nice surprise whenever it comes in for me

I'll keep an eye out for it second hand for you both, my local libraries have lots of copies but I'm not sure sending one through the post would be sensible! rosemary3 and natsplatt

I've read this now and have some thoughts, but I'll wait until more people have read it before commenting too much

Don't worry Ellie, I've just checked and I'm no 4 in the queue now there are 6 copies in my district and 3 are due back in the next 2 weeks, and the other 3 are currently in transfer, so it shouldn't be long to wait!

Our libraries have 3 copies so I'll probably get it fairly soon too. I'll pop in tomorrow and ask.

I did not look the Book up on Amazon or FF, as I had committed to read it. When I collected it, the cover made me think of the Vermeer painting 'The Girl With The Pearl Earring' even though the cover was not one that would usually have drawn me inside, I was open minded - I even ignored the 'back cover' intro .. So I settled back to read .. Sadly, the whole experience did not fill me with joy .. the subject matter was not my cup of tea & all the flitting off to 'Coventry' did nothing to enhance the main storyline. The third story, from the Grandfather, was the most interesting part to me.
I didn't 'buy in' to the family unit at all & I thought that all the foul language from a teenage girl was inappropriate. Following all the drama at the beginning, the ending was like a 'shrug of the shoulders' and I felt I was left hanging .. but happy it was finally over
Apart from the History lesson (which frankly, bored me), what did I learn at the end ? Only that Sarah is not an author I'll be dashing out to buy the back catalogue from.I will however, be joining in with Q2 geminii xx Save

I am totally with you on this geminii, although I felt it was really beautifully written and the beginning really grabbed me. The switch in the stereotypical family unit was interesting and got my attention ' although I didn't need to be reminded of this at every opportunity and started to find it frustrating in the end. The Coventry stuff, just didn't need to be there at all and really didn't add anything to the book, although interesting enough.' Overall, the writing alone would make me read some of her other books, maybe the Non-Fiction about Iceland but I won't be rushing out to get any of the other fiction books I don't think. That will teach me to listen to all the hype! Must try harder with my choice next time I rated it 3/5

' Now is this the way Sarah sees herself, I wonder ?? No character in the book seemed to fit that image .. IMHO '

I reserved this book at the Library for a fee. I collected it just before New Year. From the moment I looked at the cover and read the description - I knew instantly that the book and I wasn't compatible.
I tried - and I tried again -having had to reread it again - and again. I am afraid I got to Page 62 and had enough. I didn't like any of the characters and one of those sentences (I forgotten which page) was miles long you could hardly catch your breath to read on.
If I hadn't stopped when I did - I would have torn my hair out! It certainly isn't an author I would choose again.
I'll look forward to the next choice.
