I have noticed that 'Goodreads' is mentioned regularly in posts here, so being curious I had a look at the website this weekend ..
Now, I love a good list as much as the next girl, but as I already have all my books listed on my PC, my little book I take when shopping to refer to, and my TBR on here, do I really need another book list ?? Bearing in mind, I only discovered the term TBR since joining here, my only previous interest in books was reading them and enjoying looking at my overflowing shelves .. recording, reviewing, scoring etc. had never crossed my mind ..
So, I would be interested to know how you guys use GR, what you like and dislike & any best practice info on how best to use it ??
Please, help me decide ..

I joined it a few years ago but had to make a new one due to forget password! I like using it for finding new books, reviewing/rating, keeping track of what I have read and whether I am on track with my reading challenge. I also get involved with the giveaways (although havent won any yet) and also reading the blogs. It's just really user friendly and has everything in one place. I use it to accompany this site basically Hope this helps!

I don't use it myself, although many members do, as you have found out. I tend to be a "roamer" - I have several book blogs that I look at, and I always look at the 1 and two star reviews on Amazon. If there are 500 5 stars, and 2/3 1 stars, I think it is probably a good read! Otherwise, my TBR list on here is good enough.

I joined a few weeks ago, not sure why, because pretty much everything I have on there, I have on a Excel spreadsheet that I've been keeping for yonks.
However, I like seeing what other friends (who are not on here) are reading too, and I like the way you can match up their list with yours, so you can see if you've got anything they want and vice versa. BUT for me, the best thing is having the app, so at least I've got a form of wishlist handy when I'm out and about. I'm sure I could have added the spreadsheet somehow, but what's done is done.
Apart from that... It depends on how you want to use it.

I joined GR not long after joining RiSi. I keep it up to date with what I am currently reading. You can also link it to your Facebook account (if you have one) so you can share what you are reading.
I don't have my full TBR on there, I did list books to start with but now I add as I read. If you already have your TBR on a spreadsheet I believe you can upload it rather than having to list one by one.
I find the site useful for searching for books on particular subjects. For example I have a personal challenge to read a book set in every country in the world and there are several groups on GR doing something similar and there are lists of suggestions.

Thank you for all the Feedback ..
I was still very much undecided, until I thought that perhaps it would be a good place to keep an electronic record of the Books I have read .. when you give, swap or sell them on, that's it .. they've gone
Also, as I am now using my Kindle App, I wanted somewhere to record what I had read on that, because as soon as I've finished a book, I'm deleting it from everywhere ..
So, I've signed up & it has swept over everything I've downloaded or purchased from Amazon, so that's saved me loads of time & done one half of my plan in one sweep ..
I'm going to add the tree books that I've read this year & later, when I have more time, I want to add as many as I can remember from recent years (plus those I have kept on the shelf) .. a job for a rainy afternoon, I feel

I found the easiest way to list what I had read in the past was to think of an author and then think which of their books I has read. Of course you will have to make a guess at the dates.

I use it a lot. I like the groups and the challenges. If you like reading challenges, there's a lot more to Goodreads than keeping a book list!

I use it everyday for logging my progress on books I am currently reading and also - * creating shelves for all my books ie. Tree owned Tbr or Kindle owned etc (I don't have my full tbr on there but I am getting there) * logging books on my Goodreads challenge for the year * reading reviews/blogs * joining groups with similar interests and joining their challenges * reading Listopia (lists of books ie. best sci-fi of 2016 award winners etc) * following authors * finding friends into similar books and seeing their personal recommendations for me * entering giveaways (have won over 30 books to date) * voting on GR choice awards * reading the stats it creates of my reading habits and much, much more There is much I don't use it for still ie. Creative Writing, quizzes, news & interviews, author questions as there are so many options and features.

Don't do reviews. Will check out Listopia. The shelves I've got on the spreadsheet. Don't do creative writing. It is what you make of it and whatever works for you isn't it. But pennylane you're like aileen11, a bad influence(!) as we like a lot of the same stuff, and I'm always adding wishlisters with you two!

I also use my 'shelves' when I am out and about shopping with my phone to see if I have a book already or not. Listopia is fun - it also tells you how many of the top 100 on a particular list (I think) you have read or have on your tbr! You can also like/save your favourite lists and vote on the books which moves them up the list. I can't help adding books too when I see one someone has reviewed There just aren't enough hours.............

I have joined the book challenge and that encourages me to keep track of when I start and finish books. I usually remember to update goodreads app more than my tbr or reading list. I haven't put all my books on there but books I want to read and recent purchases. It also shows up on my Kindle. Sometimes I remember to post reviews and there are giveaways on the website so many though

Thank you windysisters & rosemary3 for your input ..
I like the Search for the Author trick as a quick way to add my books .. I think I've probably got enough info to add my 2016 reads, but further back than that, I'll keep things simple and just pick one date for them all ..
The more I look into the site, I find that it is indeed more than a place for a Book list .. I think it could be a very dangerous place for me .. I can see spare time disappearing down a Book reads hole already ..
