Ooh, we got on of these boxes to go under the sofabed for the second spare room. I'm keeping the pillows for the bed in it but good to know about this if I get desperate! Seriously though, when I moved in with MrW we got two of the tallest/widest Billy bookcases from Ikea and, at MrW's suggestion, got the ones with the deeper shelves so there's room to double park. I also bought some extra shelves so could fit more in. I have been at the point where I couldn't fit any more on to these bookcases though. When Risi swapping site closed I got rid of the two boxes of swaps I had and moved two crafting boxes which were taking up space on my bookcases into the space the swaps had been and hey presto! a huge amount of space on my bookcases! It's not easily accessible so I've piled all my keepers into this shelf and have then been able to spread my TBR out so there's now some free space on shelves again. I've been pretty good so far this year and haven't acquired too many additional books. Speaking of bookcases, I got the Kallax from Ikea (it's the one that looks like squares stacked on top of each other) and found that they can accommodate double parked books but... if I don't put it all the way to the wall but instead about half a typical book length away then by allowing the innermost layer to "hang" off the end of the shelf I can now triple-park books A fantastic trick if you're looking to make the most out of existing bookshelves, though one warning that books are really difficult to find. I know I have a second copy of Sheila O'Flanagan's The Missing Wife because my spreadsheet says so but I can't for the life of me find it on the shelf!

Lol) I'd say that was a good thing, I find I've got two copies of the same book, because I've NOT noted it down ..

You mean you don't put books on the shelves in alphabetical order???

You mean you don't put books on the shelves in alphabetical order??? It started as something organised by genre, now it's morphed into a system driven by "if it fits, it stays"

I couldn't do triple-parking, alphabetical or otherwise!! If I cannot see I title on a spine, I don't "see" the book at all, so I would never look at the rows behind

I've got a Billy bookcase, and the books are all doubled parked. I've got a small bookcase upstairs, and two small shelves in the conservatory that are pretty much empty (EEK - MUST RECTIFY). Nothing is alphabetical!

Of course one solution would be to stop buying books until you have read the ones you already have. Don't worry, I'm only kidding 😅.

Do I win? I have 2 half shelves in a large, old, glass fronted bookshelf unit that are quadruple parked - 2 deep and 2 high as the shelves are wide and far apart.
Like Wendy with her inaccessible low shelf I have my keepers on the back rows so I can see the spines on all the TBR books. Works for me!
(And no Wendy sorry, no alphabetical system here either!)
