Flavia is a precocious, motherless, 11-year old fascinated with chemistry and death, who bicycles around (on Gladys, the bike) Bishop's Lacey - investigating crimes. Lives in crumbling ancient country house, Buckshaw. Set in 1950s England. Family consists of Flavia's two sisters Feely & Daffy (who she dreams of poisoning), Col De Luce (father), the stalwart Dogger (father's factotum) & Mrs Mullet, the dubious cook.
Highly recommended by me!
1. The Sweetness At the Bottom of the Pie 2. The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag 3. A Red Herring Without Mustard 4. I Am Half Sick of Shadows 5. Speaking From Among the Bones 6. The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches 6.5 The Curious Case of the Copper Corpse 7. As Chimney Sweepers Come To Dust 8. Thrice the Brinded Cat Hath Mew'd 9. The Grave's a Fine and Private Place 10. The Golden Tresses of the Dead (2019)

I am fortunate to have been with this amazing series from the start. Just finished number 9 in the series. Impossible to convey how clever and complete these stories are. I have harried the author/publisher to put number 8 into print. We shall see.

Not much info on his blog. Hope not though, I love Flavia.

Same here; I have been reading all of the later ones last month and this and I'm now rereading the first three as it's so long since I read them originally. Sal

Oh this is a blast from the past! I adored these books despite the fact I always had an image of the author as the dastardly fiend Alan Bradley who tried to kill Rita in Corrie. Means nothing to some but anyway...J only got as far as Book 6 and was then overwhelmed by constant Amazon Vine reviews and then Netflix came along. I’m going to make a consistent effort to catch up on squandered time when I could have been reading. Still not a fan of housework! I anticipate a Flavia revival.

Doesn't look like there are any new Flavia's in the offing. There were rumours of a TV series, but nothing has come of that either!
