A few months ago I thought about how many English Counties I could visit, or travel through, from my reading choices .. Books enable us to travel all over the world, but how much do we learn about our own green and pleasant land ?
I am not really Challenging myself to cover all of them in 12 months, nor do I intend to seek specific books out .. I'm just interested to see where I go and what I see ..
So I've decided to Map my Reading Route around England in 2019 ..
List of English Counties :
Bedfordshire Berkshire Buckinghamshire Cambridgeshire Cheshire City of London Cornwall County Durham Cumbria Derbyshire Devon Dorset Essex Gloucestershire Hampshire Herefordshire Hertfordshire Kent Lancashire Leicestershire
Lincolnshire Manchester Middlesex Norfolk Northamptonshire Northumberland Nottinghamshire Oxfordshire Rutland Shropshire Somerset Staffordshire Suffolk Surrey Sussex Teeside Warwickshire West Midlands Wiltshire Worcestershire Yorkshire
I would prefer the book to be set in the County, rather than just fleetingly pass through, but I will see how I get on ..
Please join me and Map your own Reading Route ..

Changed my mind about this - I can't see me finishing it, and I hate not finishing challenges.

If anyone doing this challenge does struggle with an area please let me know. I have a book called "Scene of the Crime" which lists books by location around the British Isles (obviously all crime fiction) and I'd be happy to look places up.

I'm not doing reading challenges this year but I've just ended up reading a book with an Irish character (after watching Brooklyn about an Irish girl) so I'm thinking of reading a book set in Scotland, Wales and England. I have a few books set in Cornwall. I like the idea of travelling through reading, especially because I am not going on holiday this year (bought house and boyfriend bought a car ). I have a book on my Kindle set in a different country Parrot in a pepper tree by Chris Stewart, I read his first book one summer when I had a very late holiday. So I'll be reading the second this year, which ties into my goal of reading books I keep meaning to read. Hmm Outlander 2 is set in Scotland that's on my list.

Thanks Wendy, but I think it's only me at the mo .. I might log mine just to see where I go (out of interest) ?? Ooh I like that idea, I couldn’t commit to a full on challenge but would be interesting to see where I travel! So far this year I’ve just been trundling round Westeros though 😂 Nat

I'll keep a log on my master spreadsheet, and think I'll also track how much time travelling I do. So far this year I've done a fair bit of flying between Europe and the US, but mostly in the first half of the 20th century.

I'm not going to have this as a challenge myself but I'll try to remember to put something in my "books read in "month" post" to say which county which might help anyone trying to complete the list.

If you've got the City of London, shouldn't there be London too, as they're two separate entities?
Just to be bloody minded!
I like the idea of logging where I've been too.
