Like last year I've planned a reading theme for each month in the year ahead, but this time will aim to read only half a dozen theme books each month which will allow me more capacity for reading some of the many books I'm desperate to get to that don't fit easily into any of the themes.
Here's the list for the year - if any of you would like to join me at any point I'll be very interested to see what books you read on these themes:
JANUARY: Walking in the Air - books about flying/space
Read:
The Wild Air – Rebecca Mascull
The Lost Airman – Seth Meyerowitz (non-fiction)
The Last Pilot – Benjamin Johncock
Skyfaring – Mark Vanhoenacker (non-fiction)
Night Flight – Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Washington Black – Esi Edugyan
FEBRUARY: Boys and Girls Come Out to Play - books with boy/girl/man/woman in the title
Read:
Rocket Boys – Homer Hickam (non-fiction)
My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises – Fredrik Backman
Two Owls at Eton – Jonathan Franklin
The Zig Zag Girl – Elly Griffiths
The Little Snake – A L Kennedy
The Child That Books Built – Francis Spufford
MARCH: The Sound of Music - books about music/with music-themed titles
APRIL: The Book of Time - time-related titles
MAY: In Sickness and in Health - anything to do with health, mental or physical
JUNE: I Spy With My Little Eye... authors beginning with S (or pick your own letter!)
JULY: Curiouser and Curiouser - titles containing words such as 'curious', 'strange' or 'mystery'
AUGUST: Next in line - the next unread book in some of the series I have on the go
SEPTEMBER: A hard(back!) month
OCTOBER: A short (books) month!
NOVEMBER: Keep it in the Family - books about families, or with family members in the title
DECEMBER: Here, There and Everywhere - books set abroad or with placenames in the title
