I had to ask Suzanne about read-along clasics because I could not find the thread..... anyway, I can see now that it stopped (for a while) in December. I don't read many classics now, but I thought it might be fun to read a childrens book (especially if you don't normally do that) during lock-down.... and then there are so many!
So has anyone got a copy of a children's classic they'd like to read? And could you drag it off the back shelves and read it before the end of May? I have several, and because somewhere else today pennyt and I had a quick comment about The Borrowers, I thought about reading that. So that's my choice. If anyone wants to join me, and review after reading, please post and I will add you to the list.

Yes Mrs M, there's been a pause in proceedings on the Read along Classic thread .. I love the the idea of a Children's Classic read, as earlier this year I reread The Magic Faraway Tree books by Enid Blyton - just as magical today as when I read them as a child .. I don't have a copy of The Borrowers, but I was planning on rereading a Book that my Mum gave me way back when I used to take Ballet classes when in primary school (got some badges too ) Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield (Eeeeek !! Book is dated 1977) " BALLET SHOES is the story of Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil, three very different girls who were each adopted as an orphaned baby by the eccentric explorer, Gum. After leaving the children in the care of his niece Sylvia in London, he returns to exploring, promising to come back in five years' time.
At first, the girls lead privileged and sheltered lives in the comfort of wealth. But after five years go by and Gum fails to return, Sylvia's money starts to run out. Things begin to look bleak for Sylvia and the Fossil girls until they hit on an inspired idea: Pauline, Petrova and Posy will take to the stage.
But it's not long before the Fossils learn that there's more to being a star than they thought .. "Can't remember it at all .. Now I have some time, think I'll look into reading an adult Classic in June ...

Ooh, I'm in. If I can find it I might also read a Noel Steatfeild but the one I had and loved was The Painted Garden. If I can't lay my hands on it easily I'll find something else. Great idea Mrs Mac, thank you. ETA: I've found it, I'm in

Great idea! I have a presentation copy of Black Beauty by Anna Sewell my daughter gave me a couple of birthdays ago so now is a good excuse to read it again!
Suspenseful, deeply moving tale, narrated from the horse's point of view, follows Black Beauty from his carefree days as a colt through a variety of experiences at the hands of many owners - some sensitive and gentle; others thoughtless and cruel.

I reread Black Beauty & Heidi last year .. I have my Mums' childhood copies, which I think we read together back when I was little .. I got Kindle Freebies of both so I didn't damage the Books .. enjoy

I'll go for The Wizard of Oz. Seen the film but never read the book.
And I've already started and I suspect it won't take long!
