Hi All, I am planning to buy my daughter-in-law some books for Christmas but need some help with different authors. She describes her reading material as rubbish - Marian Keyes and Sophie Kinsella. I want to avoid those two authors as I don't know which of their books she has read; can anyone suggest similar authors, please?

If you look at either of these authors on Fantastic Fiction and scroll down to the bottom of their page, you will see a section "Visitors also looked at these authors" which should give you some idea.

Authors similar to (imo better than Marian Keyes!) at "rubbish" that I really enjoy: Jenny Colgan, Sarah Morgan. Carole Matthews is also good but her books tend to be a bit on the heavier side than the previous two. Hope this helps, or if she's also got lots of these there are a few others that come to mind.

Beth O’Leary writes some good ‘rubbish’ too, I don’t read a lot in that genre anymore but love hers! There’s also Stepping Up by Sarah Turner, (aka The unmumsy mum on social media)

Some good suggestions here. It makes me really sad that commercial women's fiction, something that takes a lot of skill to write well, is so often described as 'rubbish', even by the people who read it.

Funnily enough, my BIL was with us at the weekend and reading what he described as "trash" (Lynda LaPlante) and I said there's nothing wrong with enjoying such a book. Compare it to eating out - yes it's lovely to have Cordon Bleu or Michelin Starred meals but sometimes you just want a pizza with friends!
