So here is the list for the 2017 40-book challenge – see how many of these you can fulfil from your reading during 2017. I’ve made a few changes from 2016’s list: removed some of the unpopular ones which people struggled with; clarified some woolly descriptions; made some a bit easier (eg “Classic Romance” has now become “Love Story” to give a wider chance of finding a book); the movie and TV category are now the same thing. There are categories that you can plan for and some which I hope you will complete incidentally with your normal reading choices. So please read through the list and if there is a category you don’t understand then please shout up now so we can make the list user-friendly right from the start. 1 A book with more than 500 pages 2 A love story 3 A book that became a movie or TV programme 4 A book published in 2017 5 A book with a number in the title 6 A book with a wartime theme 7 A book with more than one narrator www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/multiple-narrators 8 A funny book 9 A book with food or drink in the title 10 A mystery or thriller 11 A book written under a pseudonym 12 A book of short stories 13 A book set in a different country 14 A book with a long title (ie 5 words or more) 15 A book where one of the main characters is royalty 16 A prize-winning book 17 A book based on a true story 18 A book set in one of the Nordic countries 19 A book that has an alliterative title (Alliterative means words beginning with the same sound. So it could be the same letter as in Curtain Call but it could also be Cooks Kitchen) Useful list: www.goodreads.com/list/show/9715.Alliterations20 A book you can finish in a day 21 A book you’ve owned for over 2 years but haven’t read until now 22 A book from the library 23 A book with a colour in the title 24 A book with a “family member” in the title (aunt, sister, father etc) 25 A book by an author from the Southern Hemisphere 26 A book by an author you’ve never read before 27 A book originally written in a different language 28 A book set during Christmas 29 A book with a non-human character 30 A book written by two authors www.goodreads.com/list/show/24000.Best_Books_Written_By_Two_Authors www.abebooks.com/books/gaiman-pratchett-authors-writing/literary-collaborations.shtml31 A book with a place name in the title 32 A book with a green cover 33 A book you bought brand new 34 A book with a person’s name in the title 35 A book which is part of a trilogy www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/trilogy36 A book which was a gift 37 A book set in the past (ie over 200 years ago) 38 A book with a water-associated word in the title 39 A book with a character you hated 40 A book about a journey
