Oh no how very sad that it can't be salvaged somehow. Thank you for making the site it's been really brilliant. I'm glad the forums will keep going.

Argh, just five four! unique swaps away from Super Super Swapper status too!
Thanks for all the work that you've put into the site admin folk, and thanks to everyone that I've ever swapped with. The site's been very good to me and I'm sad to see it go.

Oh this feels so like a wake... Very sorry to have our worst fears about the site confirmed, but as I've said before I'm so grateful for all that RISI has given me - not just all the books (well over 1000 of them...!), but also the friendship, online and off, of people who feel exactly the same way I do about books and reading. Thank goodness the forums will survive, and we can all go on chatting, sharing books and our reading with each other.

To Neil, Andy and The Mods thanks for all the work you done on RiSi. I'm very sad to see it go, I've discovered authors who I'd never read before through swapping on RiSi and new ways to get books

That's sad. I've been on there a while although haven't had many swaps since the postage increase. I've just decided to give away most of my swap list I have one or two I was keeping though. Will miss swapping. So glad that this forum is still here! Have to look for other swap sites maybe

Will miss swapping. So glad that this forum is still here! Have to look for other swap sites maybe There are a few Facebook groups that buy, sell and swap books to varying degrees. I've just completed a successful swap with the Random Book Swap group, once a month you are given a person to send a book to according to their criteria/genres filled out on the group page. There are others that book fairy and swap more often including selling often for just £1. Obviously there is some trust involved but most of the groups seem to be fairly well run and those that abuse the system are deleted and others help out to ensure no one looses out by not receiving a book.

This sad news has taken a while to sink in. I've only been with RISI for three years but I've enjoyed every minute of it. So exciting to get a swap request and then choose something that I may not of heard of before. It's such a shame that it has to come to an end but I echo the sentiments of others in thanking Neil and Andrew for keeping it going this long. At least we still have the forums.

Oh no, I will miss swapping! I do understand, though. I know how hard it is to keep software compliant with all the browser updates that seem to happen almost every week.
I've been a member since the beginning of 2011 and I'm so grateful for all the friends I've made through it. The books too, of course - I've done 273 swaps, plus circle and book fairies - but the meets have been especially lovely. Long may they continue!
I'll have to print off all my swaps, to keep up with my Oldest Swap Challenge! - which will actually have an end at some point, since I won't be able to keep adding to the list any more!
Thank you Neil for bringing the site to life and keeping it going so long.
P.S. If anyone reading this would like any books from my list before it goes, do let me know. I don't fancy bookmooch, so I'll leave it until the end of September and then make them inactive and take the books to the charity shop.

How sad.I have been a member for over 11 years, with 337 swaps to my name. I haven't been much of a user of the community forums, but have been pleasantly surprised how often I have been able to source a reading group book from RISI, as well as to maintain my reading habit (50-60 books a year, and I seem to have a life as well!) I shall miss the site enormously and feel rather bereft, but I like the idea of putting a list of my swap books on these forums to see if anybody wants them for a swap or for postage. I shall also look at some of the other sites people have mentioned.
Thanks so much to the people who have kept it going all this time.

I joined nearly 10 years ago too and enjoyed swapping and the forums. I can't remember how many swaps I've done and I can't access my swap page but it must have been hundreds. Its really sad to see the old site go but inevitable I suppose after the problems. I'm delighted to see that this forums will stay. I'm not always able to visit regularly but I would miss everybody. Thanks to Neil and the Mods for everything you've done over the years.

Blimey I completely missed this until now. I've been a member for about 10 years with over 740 swaps and a Super Trooper Swapper. I've loved every minute of it and wouldn't have read half the books I have or have half the TBR I have without it. I've met some lovely people either just to chat to on here or IRL and obviously I will continue to visit the forums, you can't get rid of me that easily. Thank you to Neil and Andy for starting the website and for maintaining it for so long

I've been using RiSi for years and am so, so sad it's finally closing. I really hope that Neil will consider passing the site running/financing on to someone who's willing to try and keep it running. I think there are plenty of users and people here who would like to try? (Or am I wrong?!) Others have mentioned crowdfunding etc. - if we had some idea of what the monthly/annual cost was then maybe we could do something about it (or try)? I'd also like to thank him and everyone else for all their hard work over the years and starting this site in the first place! I used bookhopper too but htat has long since gone. Bookmooch is OK but nowhere near as good as this one
