One book group I used to belong had a lady who I don't think read ANY of the books that the group read! She only liked crime books, so when people were talking about the book group book, she would then start talking about the books she had read. It used to drive me up the wall; I wouldn't have minded so much if she had tried the occasional book but she didn't. Strange or what? Sal

Here's the full list of my reading group's choices for the year ahead:
The Hours Before Dawn - Celia Fremlin A Perfect Explanation - Eleanor Anstruther A Pair of Sharp Eyes - Kat Armstrong (apparently this author lives locally and there's a possibility of an author visit) The Harsh Voice - Rebecca West The Salt Path - Raynor Winn (non-fiction) An American Marriage - Tayari Jones Gone: A Girl, a Violin, a Life Unstrung - Min Kym (non-fiction) Becoming - Michelle Obama (non-fiction) A Gentleman in Moscow - Amor Towles A Treachery of Spies - Manda Scott
The eagle-eyed among you will notice that The Road to Somewhere has now been ditched as too 'heavy' and possibly too controversial...

It seems my Book Club have changed the way we vote for future reads all of a sudden (??)
Before we chose 3 from the options, this time we had to mark each suggestion out of 5 - how much or how little we wanted to read them .. this system has given a draw, so we now have the next 4 books decided ..
The Power by Naomi Anderson
The Forever War by Joe Haldeman
Circe by Madeline Miller (I did vote for this one)
Lowborn by Kerry Hudson
Any thoughts ??

Strikes me as odd. So if I've got this right, doesn't that negate the whole concept of picking a book that people may like, or loathe if you're having to vote on it?
Scottish referendum springs to mind!

My mum was told by a lady at her group not to pick any more books, as she never liked them. To quote Miranda... "Rude".

She would never have liked the circles here, then, as we don't vote on any at all, and it's a real hit and miss thing - but my own view is that if you join a circle or a book club, something good will turn up during the year even if it's only one book and then it will be worth it (especially if you never heard of it before!!)

Scottish referendum springs to mind!Yup !! Someone has both too much time and too much technology to play with .. When you have 5 tick boxes per book, ranging from Yes I Want To Read, Maybe & No I Don't Want To Read, (with a couple of 'extra options' in between) there are too many variances .. A bit like Strictly, I don't know the Voting outcome or whether only the positives were counted and the negatives ignored .. I ticked a def Yes to 3 Books & No Way Jose to all the others, but it seems I'm reading 3 No & 1 Yes ..
