No 2 now complete, took me 10 weeks total (although with a 4 week break in the middle to read 3 library books!) but worth it, as a large space made on the bookcase, and finally got another book by Robin Hobb read, my first non Fitz book by her, and I very much enjoyed it, if not as much as the Fitz stories! Nat Glad you're appreciating the "make space" philosophy. Hope you find some good ones to fill it!!!

A Breath of Snow and Ashes - Diana Gabaldon The Book of Strange New Things - Michel Faber The Cure of Souls - Phil Rickman Phil Rickman - The Lamp of the Wicked Substituted with: Marjorie Morningstar - Herman Wouk
Diana Gabaldon - An Echo in the Bone Barbara Erskine - Lady of Hay Amitav Ghosh - River of SmokeHoward Zinn - A People's History of the United StatesKen Follett - Edge of Eternity Justin Cronin - The Passage
Larry McMurtry - Lonesome Dove
Deborah Harkness - A Discovery of Witches Substituted with: Canada by Richard FordI've made a couple of substitutes to my original list of fatties. So far I've managed one a month, apart from in July - so I'm one behind at the moment, and am unlikely to catch up by the end of the year given they're each taking about a week to read, and I can't face two in the space of a month! But so far I'm pleased I set myself this challenge as I've loved most of them, and yet in the normal way of things probably would have kept on putting them off because their size was off-putting!

I'm just starting my other BFG challenge for the year (pretty sure I only went for 2 for this challenge). At 840+ pages of small print it's certainly a whoppper, The Goldfinch - Donna Tartt. Fingers crossed it's worth it (Just checked the first page of this thread and I did only go for 2 so if I get this finished I've completed this challenge for this year and it's not even December LOL!)

Finished Company of Liars by Karen Maitland, another great book. Not sure I am going to get through the other six with all the others I need to read but we'll see how it goes

House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski finished 4/4/16The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy finished 20/5/16Glamorama by Bret Easton Ellis finished 7/7/16Julie, or the New Heloise by Jean-Jacques Rousseau The Ground Beneath Her Feet by Salman Rushdie finished 24/5/16The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie finished 28/5/16Only one BFG to go now, but I think it will be the hardest... a 700+ French novel in letters from 1761. I won't be reading Julie or the New Heloise - I was going to make a stab at it starting in December, but when I logged on to reserve it at the library, it wasn't there. Our main library shut for building works last Easter and it looks like this is one of the books that has vanished from the catalogue until they reopen (or possibly forever). There are no swaps. There's only one English edition on Amazon and it's over £30 second-hand, or £19.43 for the Kindle edition. It's free in French ... but I don't see me reading 760 pages of 18th-century French! So all in all, this seems like the perfect excuse to cross this one off the list

I think this is me finished for this year as none of my current reads are BFGs. I have several coming up in the new year though, so hope the challenge carries over.
