The Mystery of Three Quarters, a "Poirot" by Sophie Hannah, lent by a friend and fellow Christie fan who was not that impressed, so I don't have high hopes but will give it a try!

The paperback of The Botanist by M W Craven was released today and my copy has arrived! In fact, my two copies have arrived! I was so eager to get it, I seem to have preordered twice! I looked on Goodreads and most of you seem to have read it, but if anyone hasn't and wants my spare copy, please let me know in the next few days. If I haven't heard anything by Monday, I will send it back.

I tried the first of Sophie Hannah's Poirot books and was equally unimpressed and didn't finish. It didn't seem authentic to me.

I've just downloaded Borrowbox. I'm now in a position where I've got too many books to read, too many podcasts to listen to and if I go down the Borrowbox route, too many audio books (not that I am a great fan, but I thought I'd try it).
There is obviously no hope.

There is obviously no hope. I only got onto the Borrowbox train earlier this year and don't regret it one bit. That being said, it hasn't taken anything away from my reading time as I find it really difficult to just sit there listening to an audiobook, I only use it on commute when I would have been half-daydreaming anyway. Also, Cambridge libraries only allow 4 loans/reserves at a time, so I never feel like I have too many!

What has no hope, though, is my tbr.
The Pact We Made by Layla Alammar Bookworm by Lucy Mangan Ponti by Sharlene Teo from Bookswap. They now incentivise ordering multiple books from the same person, so there goes my tbr!

The following have come into the house over the past couple of weeks. From eightlegs , via Mr Mac's generous gesture in sharing out Mrs Mac's books, I chose My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. Sarah also chose one for me, which is The Last by Hannah Jameson. It's a testament to this forum and the fact we've all known one another for years now, that a friend can pick a book that is right up your street, so well done her! I also downloaded the first in a new series (why do I do it to myself), called Fatal Forgery by Susan Grossey, which was free. Smashing.

The book Mum promised to get me for Christmas was chosen by my Twitter book club as our next read, so she agreed to let me get it early. So off happy me went to Waterstones to collect Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus (the exclusive version with the period table sprayed on the edges! It's such a beautyyy).
And while I was there, I got tempted by a The Very Merry Murder Club edited by Serena Patel & Robin Stevens so back that came with me as well. It's a short story collection, after concluding last week that they are really not for me (facepalm). I may or may not have been sold by the beautiful sprayed edges once again...
Oh, and while I was at the till, helped by the fact that it is triple points weekend, the lady told me that I now have 10 pounds off my next purchase. I think the last sentence in the post above this one perfectly sums up the situation of my tbr, so I will shamelessly steal it.
Smashing.

There is obviously no hope. Like Adelyne, I only listen to audio books when I am doing other things, so it doesn't take away from other reading time, it's just extra! Living/driving/going for walks alone probably makes a difference though - Mr Peppercricket might expect to be able to speak to you from time to time The library ones are fine - I never have more than one of those at a time, because they take a while and there is usually someone waiting and it would be so annoying if the loan expired before you'd finished. Audible is another matter - that list has got so long since Sarita posted about the free ones that I have had to split my Goodreads TBR into physical, ebooks and audio so it doesn't seem too scary Yesterday I was given Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo by the same person who gave me the Sophie Hannah Poirot. She didn't like this one either. I am not sure why she has taken to giving me books she doesn't like, but of course I could say no. In theory.
